At North West Maintenance we specialise in providing a complete grounds maintenance service including the treatment and eradication of weeds and mosses.
Weed control is usually applied to invasive plants that compete for space to grow in your lawns, shrub and flower beds and borders.
In lawns the term weeds applies to clover, dandelion, coarse - leaved grasses, daises and buttercups are some common examples and we have treatments which will remove them all.
At North West Maintenance we do this by non chemical methods of removal such as digging out, aerating and scarifying. If Chemical means are required we use an of appropriate (selective) weed killer, which will encourage the grass to grow more vigorously making it harder for the weeds to compete.
Shrubs and borders are weeded by digging out a wide range of annual and perennial weeds in amenity vegetation. Chemical methods will include control for pre and post emergence weeds around roses, ornamental trees, shrubs and on non cropped land offering selective or total control dependant on the application used
Mosses are very common and occur in any ground environment where moisture is available, they produce no roots but absorb nutrients via the aerial parts of the plant. Mosses will make your lawn grass weaker and less attractive so control is vital.
There are normally two major growth periods for moss during the year. The first occurs during the autumn when the spores are produced, and if not killed during the winter by frosts will persist into spring when more spores are produced before the moss dies. The second major growth period is the spring when further spores are produced. These are normally killed by the first spell if hot weather (shaded and damp areas exempt).
Moss killer not only kills the existing infestation but it will also help to prevent the development of spores, it can also be added to lawn treatments where mossy conditions occur.
